Flying Rabbi (founded in 2001) is a five member ensemble playing klezmer music – the traditional instrumental music of Eastern European Jews, which had its heyday at the turn of the last century.
In their klezmer music they adopt a traditional sound and folkloric approach, with the goal of creating music that is both contemporary and timeless. They combine instrumental klezmer with songs in Yiddish and further languages and create their own lyrics which, true to the tradition of Yiddish folklore, refl ect the spirit of our times.
In addition to concerts they play for dances with the participation of outstanding dance instructors, and the group has also taken part in education about Yiddish music; its members participate in, organize and lead workshops about Yiddish music in the Czech Republic and abroad.
Flying Rabbi has performed hundreds of concerts throughout the Czech Republic and Europe (Sweden, Poland, Slovakia) and in March 2010 played in the USA (New York and Washington DC).
