Jiří Stein was born 23rd
August 1920. He began writing poetry quite early; while he

in a Prague student magazine. He spent the summer of 1941 in a labour camp
near the Czech town of Havličkův Brod before deportation to Terezín (Theresienstadt)
on 4th December 1941. Stein continued to write poems in the ghetto
and some have been preserved; an edition of his work will be published later
this year by the Czech press Triáda. He was deported to
Auschwitz on 29th September 1944. He perished in Dachau just a few months
later, on December 19, 1944.
