Over 150 years ago this small, faintly Gothic Dutch Reformed Church on the old Ecklenberg Estate in Rondebosch stood exposed on open ground adjacent to Erin Road. It became the first home for the Rondebosch Boys School and later the home of the Alfred Krenz School of Art.
Following the vision of Jan van der Merwe, a previous owner who died in 2000, the hall has been developed by John and Emma Oliver as a place of encounter and dialogue in a multi-faith and multi-cultural environment. The Cape Town Interfaith Initiative was established in 2000 from this venue.
Today, this unique 19th century complex, with its proud history in education, spirituality and the creative arts, maintains its quiet seclusion and is offered as a resource in the work of individual and community transformation. We trust that Erin Hall will continue to be a place of engagement, exploration and spiritual enhancement - crossing boundaries, developing holistic modalities and creating connection between us all and with the source of all.
