On the eve of Purim, at the UCL's Hebrew & Jewish Studies Department students and staff performed a rehearsed reading of a Yiddish Purim story written during World War II in Finland by Jac Weinstein (1883-1956). The performance was part of of the department’s annual Purim party and was followed by reading the Megillah, the Book of Ester in Hebrew.
The Purim story was dramatised by Dr Helen Beer, who also coached her Yiddish students and members of staff in performing the text. The audience could follow the plot from a handout.
