The manuscript of this historical drama about four men imprisoned during the Thirty Years' War came to light in the spring of 2006 based on information provided by Professor Jiří Franěk in Prague. As a friend of co-authors Zdeněk Eliáš and Jiří Stein in Terezín/Theresienstadt, Franěk remembered the play and even after more than sixty years was able to describe the plot in detail. After Zdeněk Eliáš left Czechoslovakia for Germany and then the United States, Franěk maintained contact with him and was able to provide Lisa Peschel with the US address of his second wife, Kate Elias. She confirmed that a copy of the play still existed and provided a photocopy.
Because Eliáš was sent from Terezín to Auschwitz, he would have been unable to preserve the manuscript himself. It is likely that he reconstructed the play from memory immediately after the war.
